Westchester B.L.U.E. Foundation
Brothers in Law Enforcement Uniting Efforts
The Westchester B.L.U.E. Foundation (Brothers in Law Enforcement Uniting Efforts) is a non-profit, volunteer peer-support group dedicated to providing a CONFIDENTIAL and supportive environment for police officers and their families to cope effectively with stresses experienced during a career in law enforcement. The Foundation will reduce existing gaps in the access and availability of necessary support services.
Psychological Services: The Foundation’s primary mission, utilizing a specialized professional mental health network, is the prevention and reduction of suicide, marital problems, substance abuse, and stress-related psychological and physical disorders among our officers. All services will be completely CONFIDENTIAL and job-protective.
Practical Supportive Services: In the event of the injury or death of an officer, their brothers in blue, through the Foundation, will provide volunteer practical, financial, and emotional support to the families, including shopping, child care, home care, transportation, counseling, etc.
Physical Health Services: The Foundation will also provide routine health screening programs, educational programs, and other medical support services so police officers can take a proactive role in managing their physical, as well as their mental well-being.
These programs will dramatically benefit each municipality as well. Officers who are effectively managing their stress will be less likely to take sick days, and better able to make proper judgment calls, resulting in more effective policing, better utilization of resource, and reduced civilian complaints and civil liability.
The Westchester B.L.U.E. Foundation was established in 2011 by a number of active and retired members of the Law Enforcement community, as well as a number of civilian professionals who are likewise dedicated to the mental, physical and emotional well-being of our local police officers. The foundation was established for the charitable purpose of aiding active and retired police officers and their families in crisis, dealing with a tragedy, illness, death, substance abuse, emergency, or are in financial need by referring them to counseling, psychiatric, medical and social providers or facilities that will address their specific needs.
It is our mission to be the assistance for police officers that they so desperately need while dealing with any of the aforementioned situations. Too many times police officers feel that, even with a strong chain of support consisting of family and friends, they still have no one that will truly understand the emotional and physical drain they feel from dealing with the day to day issues that a police officer experiences, and continues to experience even after retirement. We want to fill that missing link in their support chain.
